On Thursday, May 20, 2021, the first Croatian Economic Olympiad (CEO) was held. The organizer of this first edition is the Center for Youth Development. It is a project intended for students of economic high schools, which in an interesting and interactive way encourages students to develop their knowledge in the fields of economics and financial literacy and solving business case studies. The aim of the competition is to encourage high school students to extracurricular activities, and the use of acquired knowledge on specific examples and tasks, and further motivate them for economics and entrepreneurship.
Our school was represented by a team of Batana consisting of 5 students of 4th grade (Deborah Božić, Tea Paris, Luka Domić, Simon Constantin Đekić and Patrik Močibob) under the mentorship of professors Jelena Bulian Petrović and Sandra Kranjčić.
The competition was attended by 100 students from 15 Croatian schools divided into 23 teams. Students competed in a two-hour online game – the Financial Literacy Game simulation. Students were required to show how they manage to simulate adult life and how to manage finances through various forms of investment.
Our students, our pride, proved to be excellent this time as well and took the victory. Student Simon Constantin Đekić was additionally named the 2nd best individual player. As winners, they will represent the Republic of Croatia at the international edition of the International Economics Olympiad in Latvia, which due to the pandemic will also be held online from July 26 to August 1, 2021. We wish a lot of success in the preparations and that they present us as well as possible in Latvia.
